The Low Profile Spindle Gouge by Carter and Son Toolworks is a superb tool made from M42 high speed steel for optimum edge holding ability and it’s ability to be sharpened to a keen edge.
The low-profile design is very similar to traditional "European style" spindle gouges. With the sides of the tool milled away and the flute cut deeper into the blade, the low-profile design allows you to make deep detail cuts without the sides of the tool interfering. And, because the cutting edge is below the center of the tool, tool control is improved and shavings clear faster while cutting.
