Detailed Instructions
How does it work?
After you've drilled a slightly undersized hole in the blank, mount the boring head with cutter in the tailstock. After a light cut is made, check for fit with the ring blank. Make fine adjustments via the adjustable cutter head and make another pass. Because the Artisan Ring Boring Head allows you to incrementally shave away just the right amount of material with each pass, there's no reason to settle for anything short of a perfect fit.

Note: Your lathe centers need to be properly aligned. Make any adjustments needed to align centers prior to mounting the Boring Head in the tailstock. Poorly aligned centers will result in a slightly tapered hole that can result in a poor fit.

Great tool! But could use some improvements

Comments On Dec 03, 2022:The tool works great. However the "detailed" instructions lack detail. None of the cutters are labeled. How does one decide which to use? Also, the main hex key needed to make adjustments did not fit. A minor annoyance.

Great but wrong Key

Comments On Nov 10, 2022:I gave this tool 5 stars however the hex key provided for the cut OD adjustment was 5mm which was too large for the adjustment. 3/16" works but is slightly under-size.
The tool does an excellent job, I would definitely recommend. I can visualize other applications besides rings.

Comments On Jan 09, 2021:I bought the Ring Boring Head a while back when Craft Supplies first offered it. I am sold on the QUALITY, the amazing PRECISION, the EASE of use, the great PRICE point and it includes a very nice PLASTIC STORAGE CASE.
I don't use it that often but I have made quite a few rings in the past and 4 or 5 using this tool and it actually made the project so much easier! No more oversized holes for the ring.
One of the many great tools I have purchased from Craft Supplies USA over the years.

Great precision tool

Comments On Sep 09, 2020:I love this tool! I've made dozens of rings with it and it always impresses me with how easy it is to use and how precisely my ring cores fit. Just follow the instructions (watch the video) and what used to be a hit-or-miss task becomes as simple as turning a hex key. Hint! - When you get to the point where the ring core just barely fits in the blank and you need to widen the hole just a hair, DO NOT adjust the boring head. Simply make another pass at the same setting and this will usually do the trick.

An extra hand

Comments On Aug 01, 2020:Very little practice with this tool had me cutting perfect size holes. To top that the holes are straight. I am sure I should learn to do this with a shew or gouge but with the price or scarcity of the materials saving just a few pays for the boring head. Highly recommended.

A must have for ring turning

Comments On Jul 04, 2020:If you want a precision way to boar the center of your blank this is the device. Only advice I can give is when you are getting close, make very small 1/4 to 1/8 of a turn on the alien key or you will wind up with to big of a hole for your ring core you want to use. Go slow and check between cuts.

Comments On Jun 26, 2020:I've made several rings before getting the boring bar set. I never could get the inner cut totally straight all the way through. That all changed when I got the Boring Head set. It allows you to get very detailed, precise cuts to get a proper fit for the ring core. LOVE this thing!

Tool Manufacture needs better quality control

Comments On May 31, 2020:First of all I must say that I did receive my order in a very timely manner. Excellent job Craft Supplies, However after receiving the tool I inspected for any missing components (none) it was in excellent shape, The problem I have with this tool is that the machining of the boring head is not very good at all. None of the cutting tools would fit into the bores without forcing them, which is not recommended because you will have an extremely hard time removing them. I do not feel that this is Craft Supplies fault but I feel that their purchasing team needs to get with the vendor and get this issue resolved, Hopefully this is the only one that has this issue, I will be contacting Craft Supplies nevt week on this issue.
Additional Comments On Jun 09, 2020:Mike from Craft supplies called and offered to send me a new set of cutters , I declined the offer, After polishing up the cutters a bit with 1000 grit wet sandpaper they all fit snugly and I could not be more happier with this tool. I would highly recommend this tool for accurate boring for rings and it can also be used to ensure that you have a flat and level working surface

Comments On Apr 12, 2020:I ordered this boring head after much frustration trying to get a good hole to slide a ring core into. The hole was either to large or one side was larger than the other. With its first use, I got a perfectly sized hole that the core slid into with no gap and was the same size from one side to the other. Seems to be very well made and I should expect years of use.

Comments On Jan 25, 2020:I received the Boring Head in the mail today and had to run right out and try it. I've made probably 30 or so rings to date and while I've improved at sizing the blank for the core by hand, it can still be a challenge. I find I often have a cone shaped bore, widest on the outboard edge. The Artisan Ring Boring Head worked very well without any fuss. It allows you to sneak up on the correct diameter 1/64" at a time for a perfect fit. The bore is exactly true to diameter the entire depth of the blank. A purist may feel the boring head takes the skill out of ring making, but if you want a bore that is absolutely perfect every time it is a great tool. I'm really pleased with the tool.
