    Great inside or out

Comments On Feb 07, 2018:The rubber foot is excellent when you are inside a store, and the ability to remove it without tools as you go outside is great. The brass tip is well made, the steel spike is great. On ice or on a rocky trail. That once unscrewed the indoor tip can be stuck in a pocket to be reattached when you come off the trail is a great feature.

Very nice design, aside from the plated finish

Comments On Jan 31, 2018:This combination rubber-tip and ice-spike kit was fairly easy to use and in the end, it looks quite nice. The stainless spike is especially nice, as is the threaded aluminum insert inside the rubber foot. The polished brass is apparently a coating, though, as the coating crackled a bit around the hole for the spike. This happened when the tailstock center pushed up against it as I held it in place on my lathe to ensure a smooth fit and finish. The description does indicate that it is "brass plated" but I wish it was solid brass. The design of this tip also requires a tapered turned surface, which takes a bit of extra, careful work to get just right, compared to tips with flat, cylindrical inner dimensions. Still, despite the mediocre brass plating, I've already ordered another one for my next project, primarily because the combination rubber and spike tip design is very well done.
