Comments On Feb 01, 2016:this is a great alternative to the metal kits that are a bit pricy, these are cheap and easy to install. I drill the mounting hole 2-4mm deeper than needed and add about 4 drops of thick CA to the hole. this secures it from the sides and from the top. I've never had one that was less than perfect. I will never go back to the cork ones.

Comments On Dec 07, 2014:After years of making bottle stoppers with cork inserts, Craft Supplies introduced the silicone version. What a great replacement !! Contents typically do not stain them, lasts much longer than cork and easier to apply. If necessary, much easier to replace. I have never had any user wear out the silicone insert. Nice if the occasion comes to refinish the top. Just slip off the silicone insert, chuck it up on the dowel, refinish and reassemble.

Comments On Sep 05, 2014:These are terrific! The dowel is glued into a blank using a drop of CA (or your favorite alternative), Chuck it in a drill chuck, and turn as desired. They can be finished with CA or a friction polish. Very quick and easy to make and an excellent seller. If wood with a history is available, they sell even better!

Comments On Aug 12, 2014:I do Bottle Stoppers for Charity Events in Maine. The usual donation for these stoppers is $10 or more. This dowel and the Silicone stopper are the best on the market and the least expensive. I use a drop of Medium CA glue in the hole and twist the dowel into it making sure it is covered in CA glue. then I use a clamp to hold it together. Let set 2 hours and place the sleeve on to the dowel. They mate perfectly with NO glue in the sleeve. this is a great project for beginners..
