(Caryota urens) The wood is hard with blackish and redish streaks which are quadrangular or triangular in section called fibor-vascular bundles. Irregular grain, coarse in texture, turns moderately well with a slightly coarse but nice finish.
    • Turning blanks are sold partly seasoned with no guarantee of moisture content.
    • Due to difficulty in maintaining a regular supply, wood will not be back ordered if out of stock.

    Great Palm Blank

Comments On Mar 25, 2019:Palm is such a unique grain wood. It turns very well and makes a great finished product. Pens are beautiful and if you can get a big enough blank it makes a very fantastic bowl. Next I will try salt and pepper grinders.

Not my favorite wood to work with...

Comments On Dec 18, 2014:I always wanted to try black Palm, and with this purchase, I finally got to try it. CSUSA sent a quality piece of material, but I learned the hard way that I'm not really in love with the stringy nature of this wood.

Not the Easiest to Work With But a Great Seller

Comments On Oct 30, 2013:Palm wood is prone to tearing away because it is so fibrous. I usually use my gouge to get a rough shape and then use sandpaper to generate the finish shape I want. It sands well because it is not dense at all. Palm also takes a finish beautifully. Not he easiest to work with, but people really like the look of it and it sells very regularly. Definitely worth it!
