Hard to fault it.

Comments On May 21, 2017:I own many heavy woodworking machines. This one feels modern.
It's a lighter weight in places, but extremely well machined and painted. All design aspects of the saw are perfectly designed with function over all else.
You know what, I thought of one negative. The rubber grip on the tension arm slides around, and I can fix that myself :)
And for this price, with a brake..

Very Smooth Machine

Comments On Dec 21, 2015:The 14BX was my personal step up from an older Delta 14â?? with a riser block. It should be noted, that for the past 35 years I have occasionally worked in a well-equipped professional millwork shop with large, heavy duty, European machinery. I have also taught Industrial Arts classes in schools. I mention this only to point out that I am familiar with high end machinery as well as the home workshop variety. The first thing to note about this Laguna is that it comes with a very comprehensive manual that covers a lot of useful and practical band saw information and well detailed assembly instructions. For example, there is a well written description of how to dress the back of a new blade. I have not seen a machinery manual like this since the early Delta / Rockwell machinery was made. I bought the 220volt 2.5 HP model, and though I have not put it through a heavy test, like cutting a wet bowl blank, it is clearly a powerful machine that shouldnâ??t bog down with the proper blade installed. While cutting some seven inch pine stock in both curves and in re-sawing, it required minimal pushing and guiding effort with a skip tooth blade installed. My former 1HP Delta needed noticeable effort for the same cuts, well, not the same cuts, as re-sawing was never an easy task with that machine. The Laguna is quiet, rattle and vibration free, and rock solid. The table surface is large, though a bit low. Blade changes are pretty straight forward with an easy to use and accurate tracking system. There is a handy, one step, tension release bar that helps remove the stress on the blade and the wheels when the saw sits unused for extended periodsâ??you just have to make sure to remember to flip the lever back up before turning it on again. Adjusting the upper ceramic blade guides is a simple process, though the lower guides take a bit more fussing and fiddling in the tight spaceâ??no dial knobs to move the guides back and forth, just loosening threaded locks and pushing with your fingers. The standard fence that comes with the saw has two positions and is also easily adjustable for drift with the three hex- head bolts in the fence base using the supplied T-handle wrench. I found that vertical squareness to the table top is also adjustable with two additional hex-head bolts behind the fence clamp. I had excellent and consistent re-sawing results with the fence in the high position once it was squared up. The power switch is conveniently located, as is the foot brake/switch. And the foot brake also shuts down the motor the instant you step on it. There is a powered outlet on the back of the riser which is convenient for using an optional Laguna industrial lamp mounted on top or on the right side. Unfortunately when the main power button is in the Off position so that the saw will not start with the green On button, the lamp outlet is still hot, meaning that the transformer in the halogen lamp is still sucking power even if the lamp is off. This Laguna has a fair price for the quality and accuracy it provides. It appears to be well designed and well built the cast-iron table edges should have been eased before leaving the factory, but it is solid and easily adjustable. I would call this saw a huge step up from my cast-iron Delta, well worth the price, and a perfect fit in my tightly spaced semi-professional shop. This machine is very smooth running and the more I use it, the more I like it.
