New for 2020, our Bowl Turning 101 Workshop is perfect for entry level woodturners interested primarily in bowl and platter turning. Highly recommended for those who have little or no experience on a wood lathe, we also recommend this course for those who have spent significant time on the lathe yet are not proficient in sharpening and proper cutting techniques. As a part of this class, we will discuss how to save money by locating and processing local woods for woodturning. We will also discuss how to maximize yield and cut for best figure. Time permitting, we will demonstrate bowl coring and the benefits it provides.
Topics to be covered:
Proper tool selection- which tool and why
Tool sharpening- basic theory and correct sharpening methods
Proper tool techniques- the "how and why" of making tools perform properly
Fundamentals of cutting- shearing versus scraping; which is best and when
Basic elements of design
Rough turning unseasoned bowls
Finish turning seasoned bowls

Our workshop is located in beautiful Provo, Utah, just 40 minutes south of Salt Lake City.
Upon registering for a class, you are only charged a deposit to reserve your seat. 6 weeks prior to the class, you will be charged the remaining balance due. We will send you a packet containing helpful information when planning your trip, including hotels near us and other fun things to do during your visit to Utah.
In the event of cancellation:
The workshop deposit is non-refundable. We reserve the right to cancel workshops up to 4 weeks prior to the class date. Full tuition and deposit will be refunded for a cancelled workshop. Please do not make airline reservations prior to this time as we do not reimburse for any travel expenses incurred.
