The specially designed Apprentice™ S-Curve Tool Rest is an excellent tool for reaching into deep bowls. The two shaft mounting holes allow the bowl rest to reach along the outside of the bowl, or 6-1/2" inches into the bowl. The two extra inches of reach beyond the standard tool rest allows greater tool control inside deep bowls. It will work well with gouges or scrapers with the tool supported close to the work, reducing tool catches and producing superior results. It is designed for inboard turning. Bowl rest is 2" thick. Please check your particular lathe.
    • Does not include tool rest post
    • Accepts posts threaded 3/4" x 10

    Great Tool Rest

Comments On Jan 04, 2017:This is a good tool rest for the price. Like the fact I can use it for inside a bowl or the outside.

    Excellent tool rest for bowls

Comments On Jul 04, 2016:I turn with Easy Wood Tools, and for deeper bowls it seemed like I was always extending the tool past the recommended point on my conventional tool rest, which made the tool unstable. So I decided to invest in a dedicated, curved tool rest for bowls. I settled on this one since it was a good price compared to the others, and I've had good luck with Apprentice products in the past. I wasn't disappointed.
The tool rest is heavy and well machined, and combined with the post (sold separately), it's been stable and easy to use. One reviewer mentioned not liking the flat top, but I haven't had any problems with it at all. The EWT's all have a flat bottom, and slide along it with ease.
Now with just simple adjustments on the banjo, I can move the tool rest way inside the bowl as I turn, greatly lessening the reach of the tools. Makes for much safer and easier bowl turning. Very pleased, especially for the price!

    Very handy

Comments On Apr 29, 2016:Shape works well, i love the two locations for the posts. I do however feel the top edge bring flat is no good. Using a flat bottom scrapper is difficult because it tends to catch around the turns. Round tools like gouges are great. When you buy it youll see what I mean.
