The Turners Select Drawbar Collet Chuck is an inexpensive quality chucking system for turning small projects like spinning tops, birdhouse finials and similar items where accuracy and tool accessibility are a priority. Many professional pen turners prefer using a drawbar collet chuck for holding pen mandrels as it eliminates the risk of off-center pen barrels and project tubes so you get the very best results possible.

To prevent injury, the theaded rod must be cut to length before powering on your lathe. Simply install the drawbar system on your lathe while it is unplugged, then cut the rod with a hacksaw so no more than 2" of rod extends past the collet chuck handwheel. Remove any sharp burrs with a file.

Available exclusively from Craft Supplies USA.

  • Most accurate way to drive project mandrels

Works great

Comments On Feb 16, 2020:The most economical collet chuck I could find and it works fine. I'm using it to turn bottle stoppers by chucking a headless 3/8-16 bolt. My only complaint is the knob - it's too smooth and hard to get any torque. But otherwise I'm very happy with this.

I like the collets

Comments On Aug 15, 2018:These collets are accurate and easy to use. I use the 1/4" collet in place of a pen mandrel, I is more accurate and easier to get to the end of the pen blanks.
My only problem is that on my lathe,12" Rikon, the retaining shaft will get off center and the weight of the knob makes the lathe vibrate. The taper on the knob does not center it in the small thru hole. I lessened the problem by putting some shrink tube on the retaining shaft to center it and using a 3/8' inch nut. Love the collets, but the knob for me and my lathe were a waste of money.

Very handy

Comments On Mar 02, 2018:I really like this tool! Now I can work with small dowels and they are very securely held in the head stock. I'm very happy with the service and the quality of the tool. Thank you

Simple, yet works better than expected

Comments On Jan 23, 2017:I have tried every pen mandrel system out there and still turn oval pens. This requires elongated periods of trying to sand only the high parts. With this Drawbar Collet Chuck and the .25" collet I can now turn perfectly circular pens right off the tool and begin sanding with fine sand paper. All of three collets are excellent when turning finials.

Convenient and Accurate

Comments On Aug 25, 2016:I purchased the Turners Select Drawbar Collet Chuck with a half inch collet to make turning small finials for lidded boxes. The small 1/2" collet is perfect for holding the tenons on smaller pieces of wood used to turn the delicate finials. The drawbar chuck is compact and lightweight and accurate at the same time. It was perfect for the job intended.

Great Collet Chuck

Comments On Jul 26, 2016:I own several mandrels and by far this one is the best I have used. It is very easy to use. The threaded rod was a bit long for my lathe so I just cut it to size which was very easy. I have used it to make several items and am very happy with it. I purchased the 1/2" and purchased the 1/4 and 3/8 inch collets also. I use this now more than any other chuck I own.
