The Turners Select™ Bowl Chucker Pad makes reverse chucking natural edge and free-form bowls quick and easy. Re-chucking a bowl allows you to turn away chuck marks, screw holes or reshape the bottom any way you want. It also makes sanding and finishing the bottom of the piece easy too. Vinyl facing on the pad protects the finished surface inside the bowl while you turn and finish the base. To use, mount the pad in a key chuck secured in the headstock of the lathe, position the bowl over the pad so that it rests on the bottom of the bowl then secure the tailstock center against the base of the bowl. You're now ready to turn and finish the base of the bowl.
    • Pad diameter is 6"
    • Drill chuck required for use

Works for a small range of projects

Comments On Jan 29, 2020:In previous Craft courses, we learned to make jam chucks of a wide variety of sizes and of the enduring takeaways I use practically every day. I purchased this item simply for the prospect of speed, and it does work nicely for bowls in a medium size range. I would have been happier if the gripping surface had more traction. Also, gripping a screw thread with a Jacobs chuck in the headstock did not appeal to the precision gene. That feature also limits the depth to which you can advance the gripping interface. Finally, I would have preferred a rounded leading edge of the gripping surface as opposed to the line. Some of these modifications can be created using inexpensive materials in the shop. It's handy, affordable, and useful occasionally.

    Perfect fit every time

Comments On Apr 23, 2015:My father-in -law and I have experimented with various ways to reverse chuck our turnings to remove the unsightly tenon left behind.
Finally broke down and bought this unit (inexpensive, too) and have been kicking myself ever since. Should have bought it sooner! What a time saver. I have used on over 60 turnings and it's still as good as new. No slipping, no damage to the inside of my work, really...this is the perfect tool.
EVERY woodturner needs one of these.
