Comments On Sep 03, 2021:This drawbar collet works well holding dowels for my turning projects. It is well made and priced affordably. My only complaint is the knob. It seems to be too heavy for the task. I am using it on a Rikon Midi lathe, and it is hard to set the collet firmly because of the shape. I replaced the knob with a stainless steel knurled knob which has a better grip surface. I would give it five stars except for the difficulty with the knob Good product and does what it is designed to do.

Comments On Jul 22, 2021:I use this collet chuck to hold a piece of 1/2" metal rod to use as a pin chuck. It works well enough but the handle for the drawbar should be a bit larger. I usually have to use a strap wrench to give it the final tightening or the metal rod slips in the collet. A good buy but you might be better off making your own handle for the drawbar.

Comments On Jan 27, 2021:I use this to hold my chucks in place as well as my MT mandrels. It inserts through the headstock (or tailstock) and attaches with a 3/8-16 TPI rod to the MT or chuck to hold it in place. The only issue I've had is the tightening knob is so slick that I had to use a tool to tighten it snugly. It's relatively easy to make this setup but this is the only one that I've seen on the market with SAE threads, several metric versions available out there. And it's relatively cheap and well made. I would like to see Craft Supply carry a drill chuck with the 3/8-16 threaded taper so it can be used with this to tighten it into either the headstock or tailstock. I'm surprised they don't carry a drill chuck or MTs since they have the drawbar in stock. Good product and a good price. If you are doing lathe work you need one.

Comments On Dec 09, 2020:I purchased the drawbar collet chuck and 1/2" mandrel for ring making and it performs well. The only issue I had after receiving this was the length of the 3/8" threaded rod. I have a Laguna 18/36 lathe. The 3/8" threaded rod supplied with this purchase is not long enough. My lathe requires a rod about 20" in length. It was easily remedied by stopping at Lowe's for a longer rod. Not a pricey issue, about four bucks. I guess I should have measured what I need before buying...but I would have bought it anyway!

Comments On Feb 16, 2020:The most economical collet chuck I could find and it works fine. I'm using it to turn bottle stoppers by chucking a headless 3/8-16 bolt. My only complaint is the knob - it's too smooth and hard to get any torque. But otherwise I'm very happy with this.

Comments On Aug 15, 2018:These collets are accurate and easy to use. I use the 1/4" collet in place of a pen mandrel, I is more accurate and easier to get to the end of the pen blanks.
My only problem is that on my lathe,12" Rikon, the retaining shaft will get off center and the weight of the knob makes the lathe vibrate. The taper on the knob does not center it in the small thru hole. I lessened the problem by putting some shrink tube on the retaining shaft to center it and using a 3/8' inch nut. Love the collets, but the knob for me and my lathe were a waste of money.

Comments On Jan 23, 2017:I have tried every pen mandrel system out there and still turn oval pens. This requires elongated periods of trying to sand only the high parts. With this Drawbar Collet Chuck and the .25" collet I can now turn perfectly circular pens right off the tool and begin sanding with fine sand paper. All of three collets are excellent when turning finials.

Comments On Aug 25, 2016:I purchased the Turners Select Drawbar Collet Chuck with a half inch collet to make turning small finials for lidded boxes. The small 1/2" collet is perfect for holding the tenons on smaller pieces of wood used to turn the delicate finials. The drawbar chuck is compact and lightweight and accurate at the same time. It was perfect for the job intended.

Comments On Jul 26, 2016:I own several mandrels and by far this one is the best I have used. It is very easy to use. The threaded rod was a bit long for my lathe so I just cut it to size which was very easy. I have used it to make several items and am very happy with it. I purchased the 1/2" and purchased the 1/4 and 3/8 inch collets also. I use this now more than any other chuck I own.
