Additional Comments On Dec 29, 2021:This is a good value for your money, can't go wrong here.
I've only had this set for a week and have already found varied uses for it. The collets fit as they should and the unit is easy to install on and remove from the headstock.
This set is in addition to the drawbar-type collet set I purchased years ago, which works fine for shorter and smaller objects, but sometimes I need the larger sizes above 1/2" and that I can use it for longer pieces. So this set fits all my needs very well.

Comments On Nov 19, 2020:First thing I did after receiving my Apprentice collet set was to test them, using my machinist's dial indicator. They tested less than .001" runout, so they are about as perfect as I can measure. Most wood turners won't need this precision, but it is good to know they are precision made. Wish I had bought them a long time ago. The plastic case is useful for this collet set, keeps all of them protected and handy.

Comments On Jun 12, 2017:I've been using this Collet Chuck set for at least 6 months now, and I have to say I am Very Impressed. It is a very versatile product and this now takes an almost permanent presence on my midi lathe. Very good product and the price is wonderful compared to other brands and companies. I'm VERY Satisfied!

Comments On Apr 03, 2016:I've worked with all kinds of metal lathes and wood lathes and used collet chucks from several different manufacturers. These measure up as good as any and better than most, especially at this price point. Also since they are made to industry standards additional collets of different and even metric sizes are easily obtained.

Comments On Feb 29, 2016:This is a pretty nice chuck set. It's nicely machined and I've used it a fair bit for turning finials with small tenons.
I'd buy it again. I wish they didn't waste all that plastic on the blow-molded case - or give an option since I generally throw that stuff away and have a permanent storage solution for it in my shop.

Comments On Oct 21, 2015:This is a very versatile collet chuck set. I've turned bottle stoppers, spinning tops, finials, and several other small projects. Great to have as part of your lathe accessory inventory.

Comments On Jun 04, 2015:Very pleased with this chuck. I have used it for several months on a variety of small projects like knobs, finials and Christmas ornaments. Holds well and the knurled locking nut easy to tighten adequately enough without the Tommy bars provided for some projects. A great alternative to a scroll chuck when the jaws will not grip something small. Reasonably priced.

Comments On Apr 07, 2015:This is such a great addition to my lathe. I can now safely hold smaller items securely without worrying about catching my turning tool on a chuck jaw. I wanted a safe way to hold delrin rod and turn finishing bushings for pens. This product filled the bill wonderfully. Although there are a couple of things I'd change about the product (knurled nut can skin up knuckles pretty quickly and there aren't enough well-spaced holes for tightening) I still gave it 5 stars because I don't think you can even come close to this quality for the price anywhere else.

Comments On Dec 11, 2014:I bought this collet chuck when I started making kitless pens and needed the accuracy and repeatable positioning that simply isn't possible with a 4-jaw scroll chuck. These are my thoughts after using it for several months.
Positives: (1) it takes ER-32 standard collets, which are readily available in both inch and metric sizes at a reasonable price, (2) it works.
Things that could be better: (1) I'd like a locking set screw so I could run my lathe in reverse with no danger of the chuck coming off the drive spindle; (2) I often find the holes for the tightening bars are on opposite sides -- a couple more holes around the diameter of the front ring would make it much easier to operate.
Overall, 4 stars -- if it had the 2 improvements, I'd give it 5 stars.

Comments On Sep 05, 2014:As I have expanded my turning skills I have often found it difficult to hold small items. These are perfect for holding custom made mandrels, small bolts or other round stock or various sizes of dowel. They make many projects go much more smoothly! Very solidly made and easy to use!

Comments On Mar 05, 2014:Holds all my small turnings that use a dowel or pin chuck to turn. Collets are almost too tight which can make adjusting a little difficult (that's the only reason it's not a 5).

Comments On Oct 31, 2013:I can't say how many times I have used my collet chuck with great success. There are many times when I want to hold something without leaving any marks on the piece like the chuck jaws would do. Most of the time, I don't use the tightening levers, as the knurled O.D.'s allow for sufficient gripping pressure. It is a great asset to a woodturners tool inventory, especially if small items are what you turn most.
