First Try

JEFF in CO

Comments On Aug 30, 2017:I bought one of these blanks (cobalt) to try out. Being pricy, I made sure everything was sharp and aligned. I was a little concerned when finish sanding and scratch marks showed up. I remembered the data sheet recommended sanding left to right when finishing up and this counter-intuitive trick surprisingly worked. Then there were seemingly cloudy spots showing up. I continued on, polishing to a high degree and noticed that the cloudy areas were actually shimmering highlights. I used the blank on the Elite 2 while reasonably inexpensive, makes the blank look like a million dollars.

Great Blank for High-End Pens

Lee in NC

Comments On Jul 07, 2015:I bought a few of these to try out and really like them! They are great for higher end pens to give them an edge over solid acrylic or wood blanks. They turn very well but you have to keep your tools sharp for a smooth transition between the acrylic and wood. The only reason I rated these four stars instead of five is the price. $20 for a blank is a little steep and really limits your price point at which you can sell the pen.

Very Eye Appealing Blank

FRED in PA

Comments On Jan 03, 2014:I've turned several of these blanks in different colors with very gorgeous results. I typically use a CA finish on them. All the customers remark about their appearance and uniqueness. They are a little pricy so you have to watch what pen kit you use them with. I typically marry them to a mid priced better quality kit like a Artisan Jr Gent/State.

Beautiful Blanks

David

Comments On Jul 08, 2013:I have made pens from 4 of these blanks. I have been given nothing but excellent comments on how beautiful the pens look. There are 3 ways I have finished the fiji wood part of the blanks. One way is to add water to the wood which will darken the wood. Another way is to add linseed oil to the wood which gives the wood a yellowish glow. And finally, I have left the wood natural, adding nothing to the wood. All 3 are very beautiful. Depending on the plating of the pen kit used will determine which color style I would use. I finished all the pens with CA glue, which is recommended. The blanks machine easier than most other acrylic blanks I have used. As always, use sharp tools. I use the carbide chisels. I would highly recommend these blanks. Everybody raves about how beautiful they look when the pen is completed. I have one customer who said he will be ordering more of the pens in all the colors. You will not be disappointed.
