Excellent for the inside of bowls

JOHN in CA

Comments On Mar 30, 2016:I really like these discs. Since they overlap the end of the sanding pad with the wavy part, it allows me to get the insides of bowls without leaving ridges and other marks that round discs can leave.

Indispensable when turning bowls

Scott in GA

Comments On Nov 06, 2015:I use the 2" size pad with a Sorby attachment on my drill. These pads get to all the contours and under lips of bowls. They take some getting used to and make sure you sand perpendicular to the spin of the bowl and sand slowly at least at first. You'll get some extra life out of each pad if you reverse your drill when they seem spent.

wavy disks work great when run correctly

JOE in MI

Comments On Jun 28, 2013:I've used these funny shaped sanding disks to smooth the insides of turned wooden bowls, and when run correctly, they work great and last quite well.
Running correctly is managed by adjusting the lathe speed down as appropriate to ~250 to 400 RPM, and using a Sorby (passive) angle headed hook and loop disk holder, in the 6:00 to 9:00 quadrant of the spinning bowl; I find the abrasives cut cleanly and well, as long as the abrasives "stay cool." Running these disks at high speed, as if one was still cutting the wood to shape will result in premature wear of the disk, since the high speed results in high temperatures which degrade the adhesive holding the grains.
