The VB36 lathe is truly unique in its design and approach to large capacity woodturning. It is a true "Bowl Lathe" in every sense. The VB36 is designed for operation as a stand-alone lathe and does not require the use of a tailstock. At the heart of the VB36 Master Bowlturner is a 2 1/2" diameter, precision machined, dynamically balanced spindle that literally floats on a thin layer of lubricant. This “Plain Bearing” design is superior to any type of ball bearing assembly because there are no moving parts, no wear and no noise. This "Plain Bearing" design is used in applications ranging from watchmaker lathes to giant turbines because of its phenomenal load bearing ability and extreme accuracy. By maintaining the oil reservoir levels that feed the bearings, the lathe will last several generations and easily handle loads exceeding 500 lbs.

The VB36 heavy-duty, cast iron pedestal houses a precision engineered, two belt pulley system driven by a variable speed 3 HP motor that produces incredible torque required to drive large loads. A few of the many other features that set the VB36 apart from any other lathe include positive lock faceplates via a triple bayonet mount design, super wide stable base design and precision machining found throughout the machine. The optional Tailstock Assembly utilizes a positive lock "floating beam" design and floor support tool rest assembly and convenient swing away tailstock.
