Great addition to my shop. I've always had some difficulty repeating angle on skews and finger nail gouges. This system takes all of the mystery out of sharpening. I would like to see something for the micro tools – so far I haven’t found a repeatable way of doing tools with short shafts.

I carefully set this upon my Wolverine jig - took an extra 5 minutes to add an inverted triangular little wooden block to get to the right height. Watched the Ellsworth video, covered the edge of my Ellsworth gouge with black felt pen, gently ran it over the wheel - and all the black was gone, replaced by a new surface. Wow, I am an expert !

Very nice little jig. Well made and durable. I now have two, since the angle I use to grind spindle gouges is different than the one I use on deep-fluted gouges, and it's nice to just pick up one and have it already set, but for a couple of years I just had one and adjusted it back and forth, which worked just fine. Using the reference notches to repeat an angle setting is both easy and accurate. Using a light touch it's possible to get a very keen edge without taking off much steel at all.

This product does just what it says it will. I am a novice sharpener, but am able to produce consistent results without multiple bevels. I first place the contact points on the grinding wheel and then slide or tilt (as appropriate) the sharpening jig into the other end of the Raptor. I was doing it the other way around initially, but now find this easier. When sharpening with my Ellsworth Jig, I set the Wolverine pocket using the 40 degree Raptor. I seem to be producing Ellsworth's desired bevel angle.

I have been turning about a year. Talked to everybody about everything and almost all recommended the Oneway Wolverine. I bought the grinder and all of the jigs, not cheap. Got pretty good with practice but in the end I just couldnâ??t get the edge I wanted. Was about to buy Tormek and then I saw the ProEdge at half the cost. CSUSA has the best customer service I have ever dealt with so I was not afraid to try it. I like a little more of an angle on my tools so I re-grind all of them. 60 grit belt and you will be amazed at how fast you can reshape a tool. No bouncing around on a rough grinding wheel. Throw on the 120 and finish with a very sharp tool. I take it to the next level (still not sure it really makes a difference in cutting) with the Trizact Belt 600 Grit. It leaves a beautiful polish. Like I said I like to keep my tools sharp, some of them are cheap and some are Sorby. When turning hard woods it can take that super sharp edge off quick. A couple of quick passes on the 600 or 120 and you're back turning in seconds. Change from scrapers to sharpening gouges is fast and easy to repeat. This is what I don't like: The belts have a seam use to put them together and makes a bump every time it goes around. It has no effect on sharpening just annoying. The guard to the right of the belt comes off to change belts. It's not hard but it takes more time than I am willing to spend unscrewing the little wing nuts. If it was easier to remove and install again I would use it. Not a fan of the Honing Wheel, it will damage even high speed M2 steel very quickly. I highly recommend getting the Pro Edge Angle Set 979-894, makes very easy setup to sharpen gouges. I like the Long Grind Jig 979-900 for long grinds. A very solid machine, I wouldn't trade it for the world.

I received the grinder via FedEx ground in about 5 days, well packaged with the wheels mounted. It is clearly labeled as made in China, though Scheppach is a German company. The unit is heavily painted with an enamel appearing paint, which might hide flaws, though I haven't found any. The wheel guards are solid, the eye shields flimsy but adequate, and the tool rests worthless, as is typical of consumer grinders. The installation instruction picture was mislabeled, but installing the eye shields and spark guard was simple and obvious. The wheels are friable white, of Chinese manufacture, proved to be flat, and seem adequate for now, though I will upgrade to a 3X wheel (or maybe even a CBN wheel) in the future. The power cord is a little smaller diameter than expected, but the unit only draws 2.5 amps, and is of adequate length. The base is light weight cast iron and has 2 mounting holes. When checked, the unit was tilted slightly toward the left, and after tightening the rubber feet, the wheels were vertical, though the wheel covers were not quite level. On powering up, I noted the on-off switch goes up to turn on. The motor slowly powered up to speed, without any significant vibration or funny noises. The wheels had a mild wobble on one side and a moderate wobble on the other. By fiddling and adjusting the position of the stamped steel stabilizers/washers on each wheel, I was able to eliminated the wobble in one wheel and markedly reduce it in the other. Satisfactory to me. I mounted the grinder with a wolverine system and it fit properly with the grinder raised 5/8". I added a discount store goose neck lamp since this unit lacks one. I was able to get a very good edge freehand off the platform on the finer wheel and was surprised to find how helpful the magnifier in the eye shield is when assessing the edge. I have not done the fiddling required to get the vari-grind set up to the wheel height. The grinder performed well through one day of turning. I cannot comment on long term performance or durability, but Scheppach offers a 12 month warranty. At this point, I am very satisfied. Dean Center
